Dangerous Weather Likely

SPC Day 1 012913When the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issues a "Moderate Risk" area, it is because the weather is to be taken seriously.  And for today, January 29, 2013, it is an area centered around the Mid-South, including much of Arkansas, the Boot Heel of Missouri, western TN, NW MS, and northern LA.  Specifically for this date, there is a high likelihood of thunderstorms producing damaging winds, a risk of thunderstorms containing tornadoes and a risk of damaging hail.  If you have not renewed your WeatherCall subscription, I would suggest you check your subscription by logging in here.

As thunderstorms continue to develop into the Mid Mississippi Valley, there were be squall lines of thunderstorms, many of which will cause damaging winds.  The storms will actually stretch from the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes as they expand across the eastern part of the country for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday.

This looks like a busy day and night for our many WeatherCall affiliates across the country as this storm will likely cause numerous severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings, with tornado warnings expected as well.  While the majority of the storms that will cause tornadoes will likely be imbedded in lines of thunderstorms, called squall lines, there may be a few indivudual storms to develop ahead of the main lines of thunderstorms that will be spreading north and south along the cold front causing all this trouble.  But individual storms, which might form ahead of the squall line are specifically dangerous since these can cause the longer-track more damaging tornadoes.  If you have not checked severe thunderstorm calls in your account, this is a good tme to make sure that notification type is checked.

Whichever kind develop, please take all warnings seriously.  Even "severe thunderstorms" can carry winds powerful enough to damage homes and businesses when gusting winds between 60 and 90 miles per hour can cause the same kind of damage as weaker EF0 and EF1 tornadoes.  If you have not done so, please take the time to share WeatherCall with friends and relatives along these storms' paths today.
